Abu Dhabi, UAE — UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has awarded the First Class Order of Zayed II to the crew of flydubai flight FZ 1073 for their role in preventing a security incident on a Tel Aviv-bound flight. Among those recognized was Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar, who attended the ceremony with visible injuries, including stitches on his head and his left arm in a sling. The awards were presented at an official ceremony hosted by the UAE leadership to acknowledge the crew’s actions. During the event, Captain Machchhar, still recovering from his injuries, greeted the President and expressed his gratitude. Video from the occasion shows the two men sharing a brief, cordial exchange after the formal presentation. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan examined the captain’s head injury and inquired about his recovery. When Captain Machchhar indicated that healing could take around two months, the President responded with a light-hearted suggestion that the two could train together once the pilot had recovered. The remark drew laughter from both men. Captain Machchhar replied that the recognition was a great honor.
