Hellenic protest against Jobbik’s action in favor of the Turkish occupied part of Cyprus

The latest news by Hungary caused quite a stirring in the nationalist oriented community in Greece. We are referring to the resolution that Jobbik submitted to the Hungarian National Assembly on May 12th on “resolving the political and economic isolation of “Northern Cyprus”.

The document was signed by Gábor Vona president and parliamentary fraction-leader, Tamás Hegedűs deputy-leader of the fraction and chairman of the Turkish-Hungarian friendship group of the Parliament and Márton Gyöngyösi, vice-chairman of the Parliament’s foreign affairs committee and leader of Jobbik’s foreign affairs committee. The draft resolution recalls a line of discriminatory measures and historical episodes that resulted in full political and economic isolation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). It refers to the decisions made by the European Union in 2004 aimed at bringing a solution to this isolation.

According to that resolution “the implementation of the proposed plan-of-action was practically prevented by Cyprus – that joined the EU in that year but the government of which de facto represents only the Southern, Greek-inhibited part of the island – and Greece. As referred to by the document, the peaceful unification of the island was blocked by the Greek population when it rejected the Annan-Plan, while the Turkish side is seeking and supporting a peaceful resolution that is bearing the negative consequences.

And thus we see a European party of the “Radical Right” invoking the Hungarian government to use its political weight, to support the Turkish invasion and occupation of a part, not only of the European Union but also of a European nation.

Every European must know that the so called “Turkish republic of northern Cyprus” is an illegal state and consequence of the Turkish invasion made in Cyprus in 1974, when Turkish barbarian killed 4.000 of our people and forced violent 200.000 to leave their homes, while 1.619 were declared missing.

Nowadays, 37% of the island is occupied. The international community, with the exception of Turkey, does not recognise Northern Cyprus as a sovereign state, but recognises the de jure sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus over the whole island. The United Nations considers the declaration of independence by Northern Cyprus as legally invalid in several of its resolutions.

And now, a supposedly “nationalist” party from Hungary comes after Turkey to support the pseudo-state. The saddest part though is the fact that Jobbik belongs to the European political party AENM (Alliance of European National Movements) along with respected parties like the National Front (France), National Front (Belgium), Fiamma Tricolore (Italy), PNR (Portugal), MSR (Spain), National Democrats (Sweden), Svoboda (Ukraine) and BNP (UK). We of course understand that those parties would not agree with the recent developments from Hungary, but it is essential that they denounce this action as every nationalist (radical right) party should do.

We as Greeks and Europeans maintain that the defence of European borders and the solidarity between European nations should remain as a strong link between every European national movement and actions such as the one Jobbik took do nothing more than to empower both the chauvinist circles in every country and the globalization circles that want a divided and weak Europe unable to defend to mass immigration and the replacement of its native populations. We call every European national movement and every European patriot to condemn this initiative of Jobbik.
