A double blow by the German Social-Democrats against Tsipras

SYRIZA president Alexis Tsipras received a double blow by the German Social-Democrats after failing to meet in Paris with newly elected president Francois Hollande, according to protothema.

He was not admitted by the leader of the parliamentary group of SPD, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who canceled their prior meeting, thus expressing his displeasure about Tsipras
΄ statements which compared Hollande with Papandreou (Olandreou).

Tsipras met with the president of SPD, Sigmar Gabriel who, however, was categorical: "Fulfill the commitments you have made so we can help you. You must understand that it is difficult for us to explain to the German voter why we should keep on funding you," Gabriel said to the SYRIZA president.

In Berlin today, Tsipras met with Klaus Ernst, the leader of Die Linke, the sister party in Germany, and chairman of its parliamentary group Gregor Gysi. While Die Linke is facing its own internal fermentations concerning the election of the next leader and after the decision of Oskar Lafontaine to withdraw his candidacy, Tsipras tried to derive personal benefit from his meetings with German partners, something that was criticized in Germany.

During a joint press conference with Ernst and Gysi, Tsipras said that "the election of the Left in June does not mean Greece will leave the euro, but on the contrary, it will provide an opportunity to save it."

Tsipras reiterated that the euro is threatened by the continued implementation of the destructive memorandum. "Our proposal is a proposal for salvation. Our possible election gives us a prospect of stability and not of greater instability than what already exists." He also repeated that SYRIZA is not a political power that wants the destruction of Europe, but a profoundly pro-European power, perhaps the only one realizing now that the future of Europe must pass through a different strategy.
